A Mother’s Nightmare

Now that world media has lost its focus on the “Iran story” perhaps in part because the drama of the 2009 election has died down I want to bring YOUR attention, you, a member of the international community, on a news story that has just come out of Tehran. It is the story of Taraneh Mousavi who is missing.

From the reports I have read and obviously from her picture, Taraneh Mousavi was an attractive young women who like many young Iranians was disillusioned by the election outcome and the coup d’état that followed. On June 25th Taraneh was on the streets of Tehran near Ghoba Mosque where she was captured and detained along with other youth protestors, even though some say she was not involved in the street protests taking place in that area.

According to eye witnesses who were with her at the Nobonyad police station stated that within hours they were taken from the station to Hosseinieh Ershad (a detention center) by basij forces and from 4:00pm to 10:30pm they were interrogated. At 10:30pm all but Taraneh were released.

The following day Taraneh's family who were unaware of her whereabouts recieved a phone call by one of the captured youth who was with her, informing the family of Taraneh's location. The family franticly started searching for her but to no avail. Her father who was under severe mental and emotional stress from the ordeal collapses and is rushed home. You see, Taraneh was an only child of the family and daddy’s little girl.

It was reported that after a few days the family was able to find Taranehs car parked in Mirdamad on Daroukhane street but still no sign of her.

It wasn’t until last week July 8th 2009, when an unidentified man contacts the family and tells them that their daughter has been in a car accident and that her injuries include a severe tear in her anus and her uterus and that she was at the Imam Khomeini hospital in Karaj (an hours’ drive outside of Tehran). But when the family gets there the hospital shows no record of such person being admitted. However, one of the nurses did confirm that a girl with Taraneh’s description was brought in to the intensive care unit. The nurse further stated that when they brought Taraneh in she was unconscious and when they took her she was also unconscious.

Now the cover up story coming from the basij (the paramilitary plain clothed shock force) is this: Taraneh allegedly had had sexual relations outside of marriage and was therefore depressed about the situation, in other words, they are insinuating that she deliberately tried to commit suicide. This is a blatant cover-up of state crimes against innocent and defenseless citizens of Iran committed by perpetrators who now use religion as a tool for violence, fear and aggression with impunity.

This is truly a sad day for humanity but to get a sense of the injustice of this crime I ask of you to look at Taranehs picture, close your eyes for 30 seconds and imagine that she is your daughter, your sister, your cousin or best friend being savagely raped by beast like men. Her innocence has been stolen, her life taken, but what these so called men of God can’t do is erase her from history and from our hearts.

Life is precious and it is our duty to protect it. Join the cause for freedom and democracy in Iran and together we can stop such crimes from happening in Iran and around the world, for ever.

  5. Oh, this is so sad and horrible. A beautiful, innocent young woman savagely raped when she tries to protest corruption in government. I hope and pray that the beasts who did this to her will spend the rest of their lives in jail!

Please also report that MOST of these beast like savage mercenaries are from Palestine and Lebanon. These mercenaries are using women as rape toys, and they arrest for no reason.

  12. This story if true is very sad. I am very concerned about all those under detention presently and I feel sad for all those who have had loved ones die or disappear. What a crazy world we live in. We are born free and should remain free .....how do people kill in the name of Allah/God? Please tell me how does this happen time and time again.

  13. I never realized how breathtakingly beautiful Iranian women can be until seeing Neda and Taraneh. It breaks my heart to know that they live fearful, oppressed lives and are treated like animals by the misogynist thugs that run Iran. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones.

Living in the west, it is so hard to fathom the backward thinking of the facist, radical muslims that rule the middle east and find it unbelievable that it can be tolerated in this technoligical age. It's such caveman mentality, give them some clubs, a loin cloth and a cave, and you would have no clue that we approaching the year 2010!

  14. I agree that most of the crimes are carried through by the Lebanese and Palestinian thugs that the regime hires...they know that Iranians in general will not fight there own people or harm them to this extent..Iranians wouldn't be able to torture, kill and rape their own people. This is exactly why they government made sure ot mix their military up with the Lebs. and the Palests.
Another point..everyone keeps calling this regime Iranians and Muslims , they are neither one!!! They are the Devil incarnate. They use the veil of Islam as others do in christianity ( Irish- English/ French Catholic /Protestan religious wars...etc) to keep their power and brutalize others to stay in power. So please stop blaming Islam and Muslims for these actions...its not the religion its the people who abuse it!

  17. >>Now the cover up story coming from the basij (the paramilitary plain clothed shock force) i

Could you provide a link to the above statement from any authority in Iran? I really like to know the official version as all I have seen up to now has been unsubstantiated

  18. I understand why one Anonymous person above said he wondered if the story was half bull shit. I do not fault him for his doubt. The story is one of such evil normal human minds cannot fathom it, and we go into denial, resist accepting it. That is a natural response. Many Jews stayed in Europe because the stories of the Death Camps were simply too horrific to believe. They are among the 6 million plus who died under Hitler. Good people often refuse to accept the reality of such evil, so foreign is it to their hearts. But, my friend, this is REAL, and the longer we delay, the more people we lose. She is our sister. All that remains for this evil to prevail is that good people, like you perhaps, do nothing, hear nothing, say nothing. The longer we as a world community resist looking at this terror, the more of our brothers and sisters will die.

I can easily believe that this young lady is missing and can even believe she has been murdered. What I like to know is the part alleged about the coverup story. That changes the whole complexion of it. Up to know the authorities in Iran have simply been quiet about the cause of death with the exception of cases like Sohrab that the cause was obvious.

  20. What would you want Shar to do come out and expose the eyewitnesses with their names, addresses and details so you can be convinced. The same story has now been run on the Huffington Post so it’s a story with validity.

The regime in Iran was founded on lies and this murder is just a small example of state sanctioned abduction, torture, and murder.
Taraneh is just one of thousands killed over the years. But you are asking the wrong question. The proof is not on the reporter here it’s on the regime to come out and prove to the people and now to the world that it does not lie, terror, abduct, imprison, execute, hang, stone and torture its people ... guess what, it cannot do that, now can it?

So if you are looking for facts, I think the facts speak loud and clear.

  21. There is no trust in this regime. We cannot presume its innocence if it represses all free speech. And it is unfortunately not possible to openly investigate the truth under the current conditions.
But even in these difficult conditions, people must keep trying to get those stories out.

  22. I've seen the pictures of dead babies from gaza posted as if they are from Iran. In this situation there are some people who are playing with people's emotion. Where this news is coming from? give us a proof and don't lie to people. I know , I know call me an agent of regime.
